Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that seeking help for a sexual concern can feel very personal. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about our online clinical sexology and sexual counselling service.

About the Service

What is clinical sexology?

Clinical sexology focuses on understanding and addressing concerns related to sexual function, sexual well-being, intimacy, and relationships. It considers the different factors that can influence sexuality, including biological, psychological, interpersonal, lifestyle, and cultural factors.

What concerns can I seek help for?

You can seek counseling for a wide range of sexual concerns, including erectile difficulties, premature or delayed ejaculation, difficulty reaching orgasm, low sexual desire, performance anxiety, sexual confidence, intimacy difficulties, differences in sexual desire between partners, and sexual changes associated with aging, illness, surgery, or medical treatment.

You may also seek sexual education, pre-marital sexual counseling, or professional guidance about your sexual wellbeing even when you do not have a specific sexual dysfunction.

Do I need to have a diagnosed sexual problem to book a consultation?

No. Many people seek counseling because something about their sexual life, confidence, or relationship is concerning them, even though they have never received a formal diagnosis.

The initial consultation helps us understand your concern and determine what type of support may be appropriate.

Is this a medical consultation?

The service provided through this website is clinical sexology and sexual counseling.

Although Mohamed Arafa has an extensive medical and academic background in sexual medicine and andrology, an online counseling consultation does not replace an appropriate medical assessment when physical examination, laboratory investigations, diagnostic testing, prescription medication, or other medical treatment is required.

If your concern appears to require medical assessment or another form of specialized care, you may be advised to consult an appropriate healthcare professional in your location.

Can you prescribe medication through this service?

No. Prescription medication is not provided as part of the online clinical sexology counselling service.

Where medication or further medical investigation appears appropriate, this will be discussed with you andyou may be advised to consult an appropriately licensed physician in your location.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Are consultations online?
Yes. All consultations are online, so you can access the service from a private, comfortable location.
How long is a consultation?
We currently offer:
Initial Individual Consultation — 60 minutes
Follow-Up Consultation — 45 minutes
Couple Consultation — 120 minutes
The longer couple consultation gives both partners enough time to share their perspectives without feeling rushed.

Can I attend alone even if my concern involves my partner?
Yes. You are welcome to begin with an individual consultation.
Depending on your circumstances, involving your partner in a later session may help, but we can discuss this during your consultation, and it is not automatically required.

Do both partners need to attend a couple consultation?
Yes. A couple consultation is intended for both partners to participate.
If you prefer to discuss your concern privately first, you can book an individual consultation instead.

What happens during the first consultation?
The first consultation focuses on understanding you and your concern.
We will discuss the nature and history of the difficulty, relevant sexual and relationship factors, your expectations, and what you would like to achieve.
Where appropriate, we will then discuss possible contributing factors and develop an individualized counseling approach.

Will I be asked very personal questions?
Sexual counseling naturally involves discussing aspects of sexual history and relationships that may be personal. We ask questions only when they help us understand your concern.
You will be treated respectfully and without judgment, and you can tell the clinical sexologist if there is something you are not comfortable discussing at that time.

How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number.
Some people primarily need assessment, education, and guidance, while others benefit from several follow-up sessions. The number and frequency of sessions depend on the nature of the concern, your goals, and your progress.
You don't need to purchase a predetermined package of sessions.

Is the service only for men?
No. The service is available to adult individuals and couples seeking help with appropriate sexual well-being and relationship-related sexual concerns.

Are my consultations confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality and discretion are fundamental to the service.

We are using a secure online platform to ensure complete confidentiality.
Information provided during counseling is treated as private and confidential, subject to applicable legal and professional requirements and the limitations of confidentiality explained in the informed consent document.

Will my consultation be recorded?
No. We do not routinely audio- or video-record consultations.
Neither the practitioner nor the client should record a consultation without the prior express agreement of everyone participating.

What can I do to make my online consultation more private?
We recommend joining your consultation from a quiet, private location where you are unlikely to be interrupted.
Where possible, use your own device, a secure internet connection and headphones if other people are nearby.

Can I send sensitive sexual or medical information by email?
